What is ICSI?

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced form of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), specifically designed to address male infertility factors. In this procedure, a single sperm is injected directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This method is particularly beneficial when sperm quality is compromised, allowing fertilization to occur even in cases where traditional IVF methods might not be successful.

When is ICSI Recommended?

How Does ICSI Work?

• Ovarian Stimulation & Egg Retrieval: The woman undergoes ovarian stimulation to produce multiple eggs. Once mature, the eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure.
• Sperm Retrieval: Sperm is either collected from the male partner or retrieved directly from the testes in cases of azoospermia.
• Sperm Injection: A highly skilled embryologist selects a single, healthy sperm and injects it directly into the egg using a fine needle.
• Fertilization & Embryo Culture: Once fertilization occurs, the embryo is cultured for a few days, monitored for development, and prepared for transfer.
• Embryo Transfer: The best-quality embryos are selected and transferred into the woman’s uterus, where they will hopefully implant and result in pregnancy.
